AND THE OSCAR GOES TO....

The Oscar nominations were announced today and there were a few surprises...well, at least this entertainment guru thinks so anyway! It's not even like I've seen all these movies but I still think I know what I'm talking about! LOL!!!

I was surprised these were not nominated:
Brad Pitt for Babel
Dreamgirls for Best Movie
Jack Nicholson for The Departed

I was thrilled to see Little Miss Sunshine nominated for Best Movie and the little girl in it, Abigail Breslin nominated in the Supporting Actress category.
I just watched this movie the other night and I loved it. I don't know whether it was because it was really late when I watched it or just the mood I was in but I thought it was hilarious...totally dysfunctional family and all!! It has a great message for parents about letting your kids be who they are and doing things their way. Great message for kids too, unfortunately kids can NOT watch this movie....lots of cursing and yelling. If anyone else has seen it please let me know what you thought of it.
I was also thrilled to see Mark Wahlberg nominated for The Departed. I thoroughly enjoy him!!

I'm going out on a limb here with my predictions:
Best Picture - The Queen (or Babel) I know, I'm waffling on this one.
Best Actor - Forest Whitaker
Best Actress - Helen Mirren
Best Supporting Actor - Eddie Murphy
Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Hudson

OTHER ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:

I was sooooo excited when I heard they are FINALLY filming the next Indiana Jones and it will be out next year!! I LOVE those movies and figured if it hadn't happened by now it probably was never going to...especially considering Harrison is what...62 or something? I can't believe the first one came out in 1981 and the last one in 1989!!!

Have you been watching 24 and wondering where you saw Assad before? He played Dr. Bashir on Star Trek's Deep Space Nine series (or whatever it was called). Can you tell I'm not a trekkie...I always enjoyed the Star Trek movies but never really got into any of the TV series.

That's it for now....Live Long and Prosper!! (Spock say that? I don't know...did I just make that up??)

Boy, I sure know where to go for my entertainment news. Thanks for keeping me in the loop! I really want to see The Departed and The Queen... I guess I'll be adding a few more movies to my list!

You have always been a great entertainment guru and this post confirms it. Having seen a few movies recently I will give my two cents. Brad Pitt was in Babel for 5 seconds and I don't think he should be recognized (at least for this film) other than adding his name to the movie thus making it successful. The fact that Rinko Kikuchi who plays the young Asian girl in Babel is even considered is a knock against the others. Cate Blanchet is in the same category (Best Supporting) and she was nothing short of fantastic in Notes. The nod will likely go to Jennifer Hudson and although I have not seen it, I have issues with singers getting recognized as "great" actors when they are playing a singer. Hello?? And they are acting how? A friend of mine who saw both Jennifer and Cate (in Notes) says there is no contest, it should go to Cate. I'm hoping for an upset and see Cate win. Best Movie? Fingers crossed for The Departed but this would be a change of pace for the Academy who will likely recognize Babel, not sure why. It was okay but not worth the recognition IMHO. Whew, sorry for the blog ... oops I mean comment!
